What The Rain Knows

The rain knows all the things
we try to wash away.
It knows of the unshed tears,
the names cried into pillows,
the prayers that must’ve gotten caught in the ceiling fan.
It knows how to fall and keep falling,
how to touch the earth
and still never belong to it.
It knows the language of leaving,
of running,
of drowning,
and still,
it falls.
