Because every bookworm deserves a designated place to disappear from the world.
There’s something magical about a well-designed reading nook. It doesn’t have to be big or Pinterest-perfect. It just needs to feel like your space. Here are some reading nooks I absolutely love and how you can recreate the vibe in your own space, no matter how small your apartment (or budget).
1. The “Cozy Cave” Nook
Why I’m obsessed: It’s the emotional support version of a blanket fort. Great for rainy reads and sad books.
How to make it:
Pick a corner (bed, floor, or window).
Add throw pillows and a chunky knit blanket.
Use a warm-toned lamp or string lights for that indie film glow.
Optional: a mug of tea you’ll forget and reheat three times.
2. The “Minimalist Escape” Nook
Clean, quiet, and curated, this type of nook feels intentional. Also, I feel like I have my life together when I sit here.
How to make it:
Find a sleek, comfy chair with just enough support to keep you upright.
Keep colors neutral and clutter minimal.
Add a floor lamp or reading light with a focused beam.
Bonus: a minimalist bookshelf nearby with your current rotation.
3. The “Bookshelf Throne” Nook
A reading chair in or next to a floor-to-ceiling bookshelf. Surrounded by stories, with your TBR literally closing in on you.
Why I’m obsessed: It’s peak book-lover energy. The nook of someone who fully accepts they’re never catching up on their reading list.
How to make it:
Use tall bookshelves to frame your chair.
Throw in a side table stacked with books you keep meaning to read.
Add a cozy rug and a small reading lamp.
4. The “Window Seat Daydream” Nook
Why I’m obsessed: It’s romantic and makes you feel like the main character.
How to make it:
Use a bench or build a cushion on a windowsill.
Add layered throw pillows and a light blanket.
Keep a small tray or floating shelf nearby for your coffee and current read.
Ideal lighting: soft natural light, ideally filtered through a plant.
5. The “Night Owl” Nook
This is your secretive spot to read until 2 a.m.
How to make it:
Choose a corner of your bedroom or living room.
Use a directional lamp with warm light.
Add a blanket you can burrito yourself in.
Keep a stack of moody or twisty reads within reach.
A Few Final Touches to Make Any Nook Better:
A small plant (or five)
A candle of your choice
Noise-canceling headphones or soft ambient music
A designated “do not disturb” face you make when people try to talk to you
